There is nothing wrong with the practice. Like monogamy, it can be perverted to something it was never intended to be (like what we see with the FLDS).

There is a great deal of love and happiness to be had in living this principle. I've had people tell me it's not an LDS principle but I bet to differ. It's in D&C 132 even today!

When I joined the Church over 22 years ago I had a great deal of difficulty with the concept. Today I understand it far better and accept it. Even my wife has told me she would be interested if it was with the right woman.

I agree. I"m also convinced this push for homosexual marriage will also be the driving catalyst for bringing back polygamy in America.

I've been researching this for some time and discovered there are a LOT of people in America living this principle despite the law. And I'm not talking about the FLDS and their under age, forced marriages junk. I"m talking about main stream normal people living this lifestyle.

Both my wife and I have written letters to politicians about decriminalizing polygamy or legalizing it. Should be interesting to see what they think about this idea.

For starters a book does not grant one authority. Christ didn't receive authority from any other written word available during his mortal ministry. He was given Authority by "my Father, and your Father; and...my God, and your God." (John 20: 17)

The validity of The Book of Mormon is what our entire faith in the LDS church hangs on. If it's true then Joseph Smith did in deed trasnalte it's original text by the power of God. It also means that the Gold plates that the Prophet said he translated from indeed did exist.

If the plates were real, the civilization the plates talks about is true, which means everything Jospeh Smith has written in the Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, etc is all true.

Which means that if everything else is true, means that this is true:

Well, you do make some good points there. A few corrections though.

The Protestants and the Catholics did mock each other in this way back in the 1500s and the 1600s, it is just that it is never seen today. I think that it is quite likely that similarly, while Mormons and non-Mormons may be hostile to one another these days, over time the hostility will fade.

He could have very easily said that he doesn't support his wife's choice to be anti-prop 8. That alone would have been enough to display to the entire church and everyone watching him as a member that he is still supporting the Proclamation on the Family.

He treated Mikita's question like any politician treats an issue where the politician wants everyone's vote: He avoided a direct answer and stated he had no comment on the matter.

Not stating he's for prop 8, plus his "actions" (having an anti-prop 8 sign in his home) says he's ok with with gay marriage.

He seems to be afraid to make a stand, to say that he's for supporting the preservation of traditional marriage.

With as upstanding as you would think such a highly respected member of the church would say they are in favor of prop 8 without hesitation.

You probably hate my comments because I seem to always disagree with you. Sorry, it's just in my nature.

I don't think that Neal A. Maxwell's statement necessarily means that each of us have to be willing to make a public statement of our willingness to follow the Lord. I personally believe the Lord wants us to support our spouses even when we sometimes do not agree, and I do not think that Steve Young coming out in a hard stance against his wife would have done him (or Proposition 8 for that matter) any good.

Even if she made a choice that was contrary to the teachings of the gospel, he made a commitment to her in addition to his commitment to the Lord. I prefer to think of his actions/comments as respect for his wife rather than "fear of man."

I do appreciate your reminder that we all need to be willing to know where we stand. I just feel like sometimes that is different from being willing to take a public stance.

To all who wonder when or just how the Church moved from keeping a Seventh day Sabbath to keeping Sunday Just go to any good library or do some serious research on the internet on Constantine.
He was one of the most influential Roman leader who ever lived in relation to the early church. It was he who singly brought an end to persecution of the early church but in doing so brought in many worldly practices into the church as well. Many holidays we celebrate today can be traced back to that time when church joined with state in venerating the same days as holidays.

I ran across your blog because I am struggling with keeping the sabbath as I know it to be kept. I am not sure as to when or how the Sabbath went from Saturday to Sunday but I observe it (attempts) on Saturday. Do keep in mind, i'm neither Christian, Jewish, a Reformed Jew, or Seventh Day.

If you're going to keep the sabbath you're to do it in its entirety, that is if you believe in God, the Creator and his Son, Jesus. In this day you're to completely separate yourself from the likes of the world. It's a day of pure meditation to center yourself again as a child of God. Not as the hethans and hyprocrits do. Showcase their exhaultation in the midst of the congregation and then go home to do whatever they please. Sabbath is a 24 hour observance, from sun up to sun down. Our father has only demanded one day from us to do nothing but get closer to him. This is why the Sabbath day is important. This day is true distinction - who is of God?

Whichever book you chose to read from do know the Sabbath is vital to your salvation. The Sabbath day is of the Lord and those who are his people will give him that one day.

I speak to myself first because I have allowed myself to fall victim to the hussle and bussle of the world. Lets stop and reflect on our life and our spiritual being foresaken all else happening in the world. Then you will have peace on earth and clarity and true spiritual enrichment.

After watching this movie, and being a young man myself once, I found that the writers did a wonderful job of eliminating unnecessary vulgarity in the characters’ language and the same with the before mentioned 'sex’.
Now I am confused, by saying obvious things, like the Autobots about the wanting to mate, is that wrong? Of course not, this is what Sam’s and every teenage boys body is saying. That is natural, the taboo for ‘CCTAYL’ is what makes a comment like that of the Autobots humorous.

This dialogue doesn't belong in the movie...it doesn't matter if it's humorous, to some. This is where the Satan has a huge influence over the world, despite what everyone nonchalantly believes, sex is sacred and should not be loosely, thoughtlessly discussed. Let alone brought up in a movie.

About being embarrassed, watching a mother try to talk to her son about masturbation is, like they point out in the movie, a conversation that a father and son have, not mom! Boys don’t want to talk about that with mom, they don’t want to talk about it period, but especially not with mom! Again the taboo of the situation is the conversation they have is a private one that is taking place in front of a girl that Sam likes and in front of the audiences. The humor is intensified when Sam’s mother will not drop the subject.

That in a nut shell is the conversation. Sexual relations with anyone else, and yourself is not an option, end of discussion. Is self control something that is too hard?

Yes, you could twist this around and say that God killed him for not having sex, yet why would the author record that he spilled his seed on the ground, then God killed him? His lie is that whispers into men's minds that it's Ok to give yourself pleasure, that's about all he'll put into men's minds. He doesn't tell the rest of the story: #1 God hates this act, #2 if you are married, how does your wife feel if her part in foreplay and intercourse isn't needed? The conversation in the movie is far from embarrassing, but it might be for those that don’t have a relationship with their parents or child that permits them to talk about such an important subject. I believe this can be a door opening opportunity to talk to your sons about such a dangerous activity. I watched this with my father, and enjoyed every minute of the movie.

What a double standard! How is it dangerous in the real world, but it's ok for males (in the real world) to be influenced by it in a movie? That standpoint is not consistent, nor correct morally or spiritually.

For starters, it should have never been in the movie! Transformer's should not need to be the catalyst in what starts a sex-related discussion between fathers and sons. Kids can eventually see dogs humping other dogs in the neighborhood to be the reason a father would have the talk with his son. It is absolutely uncalled for to have this dialogue in the movie! I'm not paying Michael Bay and his writers to forcibly give me a reason to have the talk with my son, I'm paying to be entertained, only. Not to be entertained then worry about what I'm going to have to say on the way home, while I'm trying to enjoy the movie.

It doesn't matter how harmless a movie may seem to your perspective, if a young man has not been educated correctly then he can take what he was influenced by in Trasformer's and find out what it's all about on the net, start experimenting on himself and boom, he's caught in Satan's snare of a lie and he's hooked and likes it.

Cody, I couldn't agree more that The Secret is pure baloney, but I do take issue with one thing you mention and I want to offer you some constructive criticism if you'll allow it.

Contrary to your statement above, the Nicene Creed makes no mention of a God without parts or passions. The Athanasian Creed, formulated a couple hundred years after the Nicene Creed (and which is rarely if ever used in churches today), gets a little closer, but to find the exact phrase "without parts or passions" you've got to come all the way up to 1647 and the Westminster Confession of Faith.

I've noticed that Latter-day Saints love to make negative comments about the Nicene Creed, but I think if any of them took the time to read it they would find much to agree with and very little with which to disagree. I think it's a beautiful formulation of simple foundational Christianity. For your benefit, here is the Nicene Creed in full:

I believe in one God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages, Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not made, of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Thank-you. I appreciate your respect. It was indeed my decision. While I did experience some nasty members I know that most LDS are very kind and sincere. My parents are LDS and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They are very understanding of my decision and Buddhist faith.

If the LDS faith IS true (and Heaven DOES exist) then I know that it will be explained to me in a manner that I will understand and believe.

In the mean time, however, I remain unconvinced. As I said, I don't want to just follow a religion that I don't believe in and "go through the motions" and be a hypocrite. I cherish my integrity too much to do that. As well as respect the LDS faith too much to just "half ass it" if you'll excuse my language.
